There is no igniter. The ECM directly controls each of the coils. The ECM receives it's spark timing pulse from the crankshaft position sensor located behind the harmonic balancer at the front of the engine.
oh so it sends the signal straight to the cop from the ecu. wow no wonder there are so many problems with this design. lol it all in one. toyota has an igniter in their ignition system. Honestly I prefer the old plug wire design!
The COPs help to clean up the outward appearance of the engine, which is then covered up or cluttered up with more smog related stuff, and also provide more individual parts for the owners to replace, making more parts to sell and making more profit for the manufacturers.
It's all about the bottom line. Theirs not ours.
