Alright so ive done some asking around and i think the loud knocking coming from my engine is a rod bearing. So my question is what kind of trouble am i getting myself into by fixing this on my own? And also is this even the problem like i said its a loud knocking that has gotten worse over the last few short trips ive taken

Does the knocking get louder and worse when under load? If its a rod bearing you might as well get a new engine, or do an entire rebuilt. You've gotta pull the whole bottom end out to get to it. Chances are if that went, the engine is worn out and ready for some love anyway.
More than likely a rod. If it's knocking then the rod bearing has probably "spun" inside the rod.
Easiest is to just plan on a complete rebuild. It can be "repaired" but the work involved is almost the same as a complete go through.
Minimum is crank turned or replaced, at least one connecting rod and main/rod bearings replaced. Be sure to replace the oil pump too.
