Hey, I just ordered the Dell Axim pocket PC w/ the Pharos GPS system, cus I'm always lost. I'm hoping I can find some uses as well for it in college but am pretty unfamiliar with PDA's in general. Could I take notes on it?
Sure I have one, I've had several over the years. Always tell myself I need one. I cant read my own writing yet I cant seem to be bothered to use a PDA (data entry is to tedious on the move, and I cant stop to hook up a keyboard)
I have a 4meg Casio Pocket PC. Bought this one because I can sync excel spreadsheets to it, that way I could bring current price lists with me so if I bumped into a new client I could quote computer part prices on the spot.
But yours sounds pretty fancied up. My PC blows most peoplesaway and I update it every couple years so its usually pretty darn good, PDA's just dont work for me.
Got the palm m515 w/ Magellan GPS. Works great now. I had serious locking problems when using GPS map function until I upgraded memory. Now it works great. Only complaint is battery life on the palm itself. Cant leave it on all the time and can't plug it in with the GPS attached. I use the address book mostly. The note pad is still cumbersome.
I've thought about getting one but don't know if it can do what I'd like it to. I'd like a database on it so I could input calf information during calving so I wouldn't have to write it down then input it one my computer. It seems that a database isn't so popular anymore and spreadsheets are used more and more. I know you can get programs to do that but they are fancier than I need. I think it would be handy to keep addresses and number and all that stuff too. Also with the spray records it could make things easier. I guess I'm not really into shelling out that much money for something I might not use that much.
I have a Palm IIIxe (about 3 years old now) and use it all the time. I still use a small pad of paper and a pen (fountain pen most of the time if you can believe it) for taking notes. My Palm has my calendar, address book, calculator, some notes for things I need all the time. I could not do without it. I am going to upgrade soon. I just haven't decided what I want.
I love my PDA, I got the Toshiba so I can use the compact flash cards, although I dont have GPS I use "pocket streets" I find it easy to use, its just like having a "Thomas guide".
also use compact flash adapter that plugs into my nextel i90c cell
that gives me internet access, the PDA does an update of news and local weather, and grabs my email
cool deal, us ford truck guys sure are high tech lol. I bought it especially because I'd been wanting a Navigation system for years but 3000 dollars is outta the budget lol. For this, I spend 500 bucks, get a PDA and a GPS and I can do more than just find out where I'm going and in the end spend less money.
I just bought a set of Michelin tires, and I got a free PDA. What a waste of technology. Instead of using a pad and pencil, I can use some voodoo stick and make crappy squiggles for letters. Thanks, but not thanks. "Here mom, happy birthday!"
You can take notes on it...In fact, you can get a portable keyboard for it and type the info in.
I have a Sony Clie' and got so used to it that all my billing info, milage, contacts, everything was on it.
Then one day it failed to function.
(Luckily I backed all the info into the computer just a few days before or I would have been in bad shape.)
I gave up on PDA's after that, but a few months later I was going thru my desk and tried to get it fired up again and it worked!
Now I'm depending on it again.
I don't trust my sony, but I really liked my Palm lllxe. (The screen got busted at the hardware store and I have no idea how it happend.)
I thought about it, but then I decided against it. I already carry 2 cell phones with me at all times and always have a small pad of paper in my pocket. No reason for the PDA.
