1990 F-150 with 300 41,200 original miles
When I go to start it in the mornings, it will idle rought for awhile then die. When I start it up again it stays running, but when I go to pull out of the drive way and start pressing the gas it sputters and sputs(misses). After I drive to the end of our road(1/4mile) it is running smooth. Only does it when it is cold. Had AC worked on today and mechanic said he didn't know exactly what it was, could not pull and codes. He did not just want to start replacing sensors and just guess which one it might be.
I have often seen the noise suppressor (little capaciter just off of the ignition coil) cause similar problems (especially when cold and damp). Also, if it's been a while since you have replaced cap, rotor, wires and plugs - maybe it's time?
I had the same problem with my 91'. You can spend a whole lot of money chasing the problem and changing sensors or you can take your truck in and have the injectors cleaned. Running injector cleaner through the gas just won't do it. I learned my lesson the hard or I should say the expensive way.

you need to learn how to pull codes using a jumper wire and the check engine light. run a search on "codes" or "retrieiving codes" and read up on it.
could be your IAC (idle air control) is getting dirty/gummy. its a silver cigar-tube looking thing on top of the air intake pipes. take is off/apart and clean it out with spray carb cleaner.
