How come, when you are driving along a road and smell a headache inducing exhaust smell, it ALWAYS turns out to be an old chevvy. How is that, why are their trucks so smelly. Every time I come across the pain in the head stink, I go a bit further and see an old chevvy truck, or subnormal.
it all has to do with the poorly designed QuadraJet carbs, QuadraCrap is a better name. for it... They smallest one was 750 cfm that I know of and after about 500miles they needed rebuilt, but the chevy guys think they drive gold..... thats why a 1979 rotted out chevy 4x2 with a bazillion miles on it sells for 5 grand...... End of rant... sorry.. But is the carb's need of adjustment or dire need of rebuild.... also a chevy dies one cylinder at a time.....
Also , most old Cheevy's are driven by illegal aliens from the Left coast who subsist on Refried beans and old tequila and never want to get out of their car until they get back to the fadderland. Consequently , The seat covers really get pelted by the chemical decomposition of all those refried beans and who knows what else. fd
Good observation on the "egg fart" coming from GM cars. I was thinking about this the last few days as I saw a few GM's hit the gas hard..........PPPPPPUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!! I can only wonder what their late model rides have for emission systems, but whatever it is, they STINK when they are "going for it". Seems like GM emission systems like to generate lots of "egg", and more so than most other models of cars. It's not just older ones, new reaks too.
I now wonder if maybe we need to create a new federal law. The law should require that all GM motor vehicles have the exhaust discharge located at a distance not to exceed 12 inches FORWARD of the front bumper. By doing this, not only will the rest of us have to smell it, but the DRIVER of the GM product will too

From what i understand that *rotten egg* smell is from the emissions system GM uses. They use a different catylic converter than Ford or Dodge. However i have smelled the same smell comming from a Dodge too. As for Ford our stuff don't stink
Taking this idea of metering of Cheevy flatus to the next logical step would seem to be....Ah ...Um...Well Me thinks we should hire that international expert on gas detection in a closed environment...Mr. Pablo El Fartso Delatootsa representing the engineering firm that designs Clean air circulation systems for the Refried Bean Industry. Their motto is "It's OK too Toot when You Eat Our Fruit"......Beans , beans da musical fruit, da mo' you eats da Mo' you ...Toots. Maybe all these folks driving old Cheevy's are actually undercover reps testing some kind of new , exotic material to make seat covers that don't hold da smell when it ain't so swell. Pure conjecture on my part guys, i'm just hypothesizing about what i think........fd
They stink here too. Whenever I get behind one, I'm always trying to figure out where the obnoxious smell is coming from. I've noticed it before, and now y'all have confirmed my suspicions. It's not so much the "egg" smell as it is the "oil" smell. I just smell oil burning coming from all of them, no matter the age, new or old.
I never noticed the smell... but I've noticed many newer GMs (mostly from the 90's I'd say) when they accelerate, it sounds like they have a bad muffler. Maybe I have too much time on my hands...lol
