I've been putting stuff back together after changing some seals and painting some rusted parts and I noticed that the wire harness that runs behind the engine was flat in a couple spots; not round like it should be. Upon cutting back the tape and that plastic tubing it looks like the wires were melted in a couple spots. I'm thinking from sitting on the engine maybe because they don't look burnt. Anyhow the truck runs, well it was before took it apart and I'm assuming it will once I get things back together. Should I fix this harness? Or just make sure there is no wire exposed and tape it back up. If you think I should fix it do you suggest I just cut off the harness at the junkyard and solder it in? The only reason that worries me is if it got hot enough to melt it would it also be hot enough to melt the solder? Thanks.
Ok. That was what was on it but that was melted flat too. I'll just get some new tubing and maybe hit the individual wires where they melted with some liquid electrical tape.
I say cut it from another truck , buy some heat shrink and solder the wires. Might as well do it right, and then you don't have to worry about the truck burning up. And if the spot does get hot, get some thermal wire loom, if you want I have a bunch left over I could send you a few ft.

I can't figure out how to send a PM; don't see an option for it. However that's the least of my worries now. I went to the yard looking for the harness, I must have looked at about 5 or 6 I6. Apparently I have the only one that has two connectors on the end of the harness instead of just one. Not only does it have the 8 pin connector but there is also a 1 pin connector too. All the harnesses at the yard had only the 8 pin connector. The harness I'm talking about is connected on the other end to all the injectors. So now I guess I can check another yard or just cut out the bad wire and splice a piece in. I dunno. What do you guys think?
If you can't find the exact harness to use as a replacement, my inner 'McGuiver' says it's ok to use another harness as donor wire, as long as the wires are the same gauge. Solder both ends ( cheap terminal crimps are for hacks) and heat shrink the repairs, then wrap it with tape or a plastic loom. Now is the best time to make this repair, it's starring you right in the face.
Went to another yard today and found the right harness and instead of cutting it and trying to mess with soldering it in I just took the whole thing. Got the harness and door handle spring mechanism or whatever it's called both for 10$! Good deal because at first he wanted 25$ for the harness alone but I only had 10$ because my original plan was just to snip off what I needed.
