I have a 2003 Ranger 4x4 with the 5speed automatic. It has 215,000 miles on it and I don't drive it regularly anymore. Lately, I've noticed that it will shake after start up for 10-30 seconds. This only happens after it has sit for a few days or a week. After it warms up, I can drive it and stop and start it again and it has works as usual.
Is there some way the convertor is leaking out fluid and it shakes until the convertor is full again? Or is something else the problem. I've changed the fluid two or three times during the life of the vehicle.
I was referred to this forum on another forum; they said maybe you could help. I hope so. Thanks for any and all replies.
It is doubtful that there is any connection with converter leakage to your symptoms. What you may have is a slightly fouled spark plug that clears out after it starts to work again after sitting a couple of days. Or the plug is starting to go bad. If it's been a while since you changed spark plugs, you may want to do that soon to see if your symptom goes away. Stay with Motorcraft plugs. They'll work the best. It could also be a spark plug wire or coil pack. Check the spark plug wire connection at each plug to see if it is on tight, without removing the wire from the plug. Try wiggling the wire at the plug end to see if it's loose or not. Also make sure it's not loose at the other end, there at the coil pack. When was the last time the plugs were changed?
It may or may not give a code because of the short period it occurs in. Usually a code will be given when a problem is there all the time or lasts longer. The PCM has to count a certain number of cycles in about a 15 second period of time to have a code get stored. Meant to ask which engine you have?
