ABS light on
Anybody had an ABS light come on?
No apparent problem. Checked the obvious, fluid, wires, fuse....
Seems all is ok...
I checked the OBDII code reader and nothing was set.
This one may not get caught by it.... Not sure...
I was parking along a curb moving forward and when I went to stop to back up, the brake pedal "shuddered". Didn't seem like a problem, just odd. Light came on about 20 seconds later...

ABS light on
Still on...
It doesn't come on until I step on the brakes. Once its on it stays on until you turn off the ignition.
Brakes work fine and yes, they will lock up...
I feels like it actually stops faster without the ABS.
Of course in the rain that will be a different story!!!
I will spend time on it this weekend.
This is problem #2 in 63K miles!!!! Not bad....

This rear sensor is mounted near the top, front of the rear diff. (it reads the ring gear).
The sensor is a ~$15-$20 part and takes five minutes to change.
I would suggest finding an Auto store or shop that can read the ABS codes. These code readers are much more expensive than the standard OBDII code readers (they don't read this error)so be sure they have the specific "ABS/Airbag" type.
The other two sensors are mounted on the front knuckles near the rotors.
I've also heard that the speedo acts funny when the diff sensor goes out but mine had no symptoms.
Also, check your Fuse!!!!
My local Ford Truck dealer charged me 2hrs labor to diagnose/fix so be sure they give you an accurate quote.(said they had to do a "pin" test because the writer wrote it was an "intermittent"problem!!!)
GoodLuck!!!

Just fyi, one of the more common reasons for a differential sensor failure is metal shavings on the magnetic pickup of the sensor. (I would think that cleaning the sensor would fix the problem, but you know dealers...). This is not unusual, but if you have the $$$, you may want to change rear end oil, and give everything a look. Dodge had a big recall on early Rams with ABS because of this.
