Brake warning light,Power Steering,Door Latch Q's

I helped a friend change the power booster and bleed the brakes in his 86 F150 a few weeks ago. His brake warning light had been on, and hasn't turned back on since the replacement.

Autozone carries the striker bolts for about $7 in their Help! section. Make sure you have a T50 Torx bit, though!

I would just replace the master cylinder anyway... but you could also have a leak in your rear wheel cylinders. And at less than $15 a piece, it might be worth replacing anyway - especially if you do a new master cylinder because the bleeders won't be frozen on the new ones. Calipers for that truck are cheap, too so maybe replace them while you are at it. You can do the entire system, including new brake lines from Napa for about $150. Then it is all new and will last a long time. But that's just me - I hate fixing things twice. I just put all new in and call it a day.

Talking Brake warning light,Power Steering,Door Latch Q's

Today I had some greasy "fun" trying to repair a soppy, leaky power steering pump. My friend told me that is needed an "O" ring to stop the leak...being either gullible or stupid, I didnt really question it. I tinkered with the high pressure hose and it seemed to me to be loose! I removed it and some GO-rilla had really "put the smoke" to the fittings and it took some real grunting and groaning to get the fittings apart...I did notice a crack in the smaller fitting at the pump...I got the new hose and it fit the same?!?!?! Then it hit me...the area of the high pressure hose was not "wet....DUH! I learned that there is something called a "swivel fitting" in hose fittings. . I replace the hose for the heck of it...($13.00)

I then went and attacked the low pressure side of the hoses. The system has been leaking for a LONG time! The area was horrible to work around! I decided to just remove the whole pump and just make it easier to clean up and get to the flex hose. I got everything taken apart and cleaned up, the hose was petrified and cracked on the side facing the crossmember.. I found it delightful that Ford had thought of putting a bolt into the front crossmember to hold the hose in place..of course I couldnt see it under all the goop! Got the pump and hoses off and removed and cleaned up everything...

New section of hose and two baths later...everything is back on and looking and working alot better...

Sorry for the novel folks..but its been along time since I've actually had fun working on anything...! I also got the starter back on the (explitive deleted) white bowtie curse! that of course was no fun!
