After replacing a cracked head and both head gaskets, I have no compression in the engine. It won't start. I do have a spark, the flywheel is cranking, but there is no compression at all. The head was checked prior to installation and is ok. The head that was cracked was cracked pretty badly, but the engine still ran. Now I get nothing. Any IDEAS??
Did you mess with the timing chain/pull the cam out? If so, it may be out of time.
If not, I wonder if when you changed heads, the valve train could be out of wack now. There are 76 and down heads for a 302, that have different rockers arms(you didn't say what engine or what year you have), and thus different pushrod lengths. You can't mix or match these things. To try this theory, you could loosen all the rocker arms, and see if the compression comes up.
Or, if the engine overheated badly, the rings may be collapsed now, not sealing against the cylinder wall correctly.
