Rear diff fill plug

Is it supposed to be like this? I thought normally the square was in, not out?

Hmm just curious bc theyre usually inverted so you can get a socket wrench in it...the squares sticking out here

Someone probably replaced it with a pipe plug a some point in it's life.

Normal. Look in a tool catalog. They make square sockets (inverted and external) for differentials. Completely normal and nothing wrong with it at all.

Usually inverted square, but I have seen one or two outies in 40+ years of tinkering.

Asquare socket would be good but I suppose a really big wrench would also work.
