If you've got side to side movement in the slip yolk, that will cause a vibration.

To check to see if your drive shaft is 180 out, simply take it off, rotate it 180, re-install, and recheck for vibration. There might also be a chance that one of the weights might have gotten slung off the drive shaft. A drive shaft shop can check and re-balance if necessary.

As I said before there is movement between the slip yoke splines. In a twisting motion back and forth not side to side as much as i can tell The drive shaft is easily removable and easy to slide back on. I would think that the non coated slip yoke would wear before the coated splines. A few have said there's was difficult to remove and install.

Apologize for the NOOB question, but whatsthis "slip yoke" your referring to...

Any concellation, when i removed the my tranny (6sp 2wd), the driveline with bolts removed, just fell to the floor. Fighting same thing bud, but mines a "howling" sound between 1200-1800rpms.

Are you saying you only removed the front half of the rear driveshaft? If so, I would pull the whole thing out and see if the vibration is still there.

Grease?

What kind of grease is used on the slip joint? I don't have a vibration problem but I do have the clunk.

I have a number of different types of grease but am far from any sourse for the Ford blue stuff what ever that is.

I would suggest a #2 grade moly grease. The moly will provide a dry lubricant coating which will still slip-n-slide if the grease wears away between the splines.

I got a quote on the 2 pieces being rplaced as in the slip yoke and the slpine shaft then rebalanced. The cost could be up to $450.00 repaired or $650.00 All new! 2 to 3 days lead time!

OK guys! I finally got a phone call back from Republic Diesel. They are sayin that the Slip splines and slip yoke are worn which I knew. But also all of the Yoke Eylets that the Caps press into. They say that I need to have a complete Drive Shaft assembly Built Which is going to run $715.00. I have found a local dealer to purchase a new shaft at the cost of $690.52 and or one from the internet best yet found with out shipping $565.43

I have tried to find the dealer that everyone refers to on here to buy parts from but can not find! Help if there is any info for a new Shaft.

Thats just the Thing the truck Has been doing it since about 90,000 miles and now has 121,000 on it now. Im not sure that a used one would be any better or last for the most part.

Of all the drive line vibration threads I've seen, this is the first time I've seen the issue continue this long. Personally, I would get the drive shaft balance checked and corrected if necessary as a first and more cost-conservative effort.

Tousley Ford's web site link >>> Tousley Ford Parts Depot

Call them ans ask to speak with Mike R. He runs the web site sales and can make sure to confirm that the web site prices/part numbers are verified as accurate. Apparently, the web site parts data is entered and managed by a third party, and the numbers are sometimes not quite exactly correct, but Mike can make sure that you get what you need.
