96 5.0 overdrive

Can some one give me a quick run thru on what the overdrive button on the shifter does? It's always on unless I turn it off

The O/D button on the column shifter toggles O/D off or on.

O/D is nice for highway speeds, better gas mileage, gives you an extra gear for the truck to run in, lowers RPMs, etc.

No, doesn't really matter. Overdrive doesn't kick in until you reach highway speeds anyways.

Actually, Overdrive kicks in just before 40 mph, which is really way too early in my opinion. It should wait until 50 mph.

Having said that, I really only turn mine off when towing/hauling heavier loads or when in really hilly terrain.
