Does anyone have any experience with replacement shocks for a 2000 Ranger? I have a 4.0 5 speed 4 door 4x4. the stock shocks seem to let the axle hop 2-3 times on every bump instead of one compression and one return stroke. this makes the ride very choppy when it really shouldn't be. My old 1990 Ranger 4x4 rides 100 times better. Any info will be appreciated.
However, I would caution you that your truck still will not ride like a Cadillac. My Bilsteins simply take out the harshness and body roll when going through dips, over railroad crossings, etc. They handle rough conditions better than the stock setup did, but the overall ride is still stiff (which is what you expect with a 4x4).
I looked at Trailmaster shocks before I bought mine. I did some research on them and found lots of bad reviews though. They don't seem to be as well built as Bilsteins. They may leak over time and I'm not sure if they have the lifetime warranty or not.
Rancho makes a shock that is user adjustable I think. You may want to do some research on those. It's the RS 9000 shock I believe...could be wrong on that. But I think you can turn a dial on them and adjust them manually for your taste in ride stiffness.
I have a "98 Ranger with the 2.5L engine and 5SPD. I replaced the shocks about 2 1/2 years ago with Gabriel Red Ryders and theose things are as good as the day I bought them. The ride is good over the bumps (1 Compression and 1 bounce). The vehicle is company vehicle and I have put over 30,000 miles on those shocks and there are still good. Hope this info helps.
