Anyone out there have pictures of these installed? I know that they are supposed to be a direct swap, but they don't look much like the shackles on my truck. It's a 71 f100 LWB. Do I need to use a bolt on the front of the shackle to engage the spring or what? The stock setups shackle is continuous across the width of the spring. Hope this makes sense. Thanks in advance.
Identify your system by going to LMC's website and refer to the catalog's drawings. You either have a regular shackle or the groovy Flex-o-matic system.
We'll figure it out once ya figure out what ya have.
Whoa! I've never been there before. What a catalog! Thanks for getting me going. Judging by the pictures they have, it looks like my truck has the flex-o-matic set up going on. Of course the DJM's that I have don't look like that. Whats next?
Well son, I suggest ya peruse the vendors that more or less can cater parts for our rigs. Visit and bookmark the sites below and order the free catalogs.. makes good reference material during reassembly too....
With regards to shackles, I believe you'll have to delete the Flex-o-matic system in order to use the DJM shackles.
Well that's unfortunate info. I guess I'll way the ol cost to benefit ratio of this project and go from there. Thanks again for your help, HIO. You got me passed the hard part.
About the cheapest way to lower the rear is to flip the front leaf spring hangers... about $7 worth of Grade 8 hardware but it requires some sweat equity to remove the rivets.
.. the shadetree (yet effective!) way to remove the rivets is to cut the heads with multiple Xs and then grind down what is left of the heads flush with the frame. Then ya take about a 3-pound maul to a center punch and drive them out. Takes some work but hey, it does get the job done with minimal monetary input.
How much drop will flipping the axle produce? I only want 2-3" Jonboy, what do you mean by don't use the flexo? Are you saying use the DJM parts somehow? Or is there a way to eliminate some stuff without putting regular springs on? Thanks again guy's.
Okay, I'm on board with this input now. I hadn't been reading correctly for a few day's and missed some critical info. HIO, you're saying to flip the front hanger and reinstall. Not flip the axle as I was reading it to be. And Thumper, you're saying ditch the flex-o shackles and bolt up the aftermarkets. (I'll stick with the DJM's because I have them. Thanks for the advise though). So, my questions for now are how much drop will flipping the front hanger yield, and will the djm's still take another 1-2" out after that? And does anyone have a picture of what these parts look like all assembled? The flex-o is confusing me, and when I google search djm shackke images, nothing usefull shows up.
Thanks again for all your help, fellas. I'm excited to get the rake outa this rig!
