2011 Super Duty "Stripper"
Tom's Ford
Im a little "snake bit" about buying anything after having to basically junk a really nice 2005 SD with a bad 6.0 two weeks ago that had only 109000 miles on it.
This truck has NOTHING !!! as far as amenities...when I sat in it I asked the salesman if I had to get out and crank it to start it ?
It is used with 31500 miles on a 6.2 motor 6 speed auto trans With 3.73 axle.
Is there anything I should know about this drive train going in ?
Is there any real outstanding problems with anything on these later model trucks ???
The old lady is so pissed at the Ford Motor Co she cant believe I would consider another one...I tried to explain to her that her bitch is with International ....not Ford.....but you cant tell her nothing !
The truck is $26500 out the door and that includes a Ford installed trailer brake kit....That is one thing I cant live without after having that on my 05 !
Also what is with the "M" on the gear selector ???
Thanks for any input >

As for the 6.0 PSD....well...that's a dead horse not worth beating, just tell the old lady that.
If it's an XL, with just about nothing on it, the only thing you really need is AC. Other that that, the rest is just frills anyway.
Just remember though, the salesman probably desperately wants to get rid of the thing, because most people don't buy the no frills version.
Tell him to either drop the price by $2k, or better yet, have him throw in the extended warranty for your peace of mind.
No real issues with the 6.2 motor. Check for the latest transmission flashes though. Get an OASIS report from the salesman even, to see what the truck has been in for warranty wise.

Mine's a Lariat with everything but Nav, and I absolutely love it. Nicest truck I've ever owned by a mile (and easily the most expensive vehicle I've ever purchased by over twice the previous number), and that includes my old '07 Lariat 6.0L. I really don't know what to tell you about that model and that money.
You can add alot of the amenities pretty easily. Power windows, radio controls on steering wheel, power locks...etc. Not terribly hard
Reliability wise, 6.2 motor is old old school tech. I think it has potential to go the long distance like it's V-10 and 5.4 predecessors. The 6 speed is based on the 5R100 in the 05+ trucks. Very reliable to, just get the newest flashes.
Tylus....what about Cruise Control ? Can that be added ?
I can deal with cranking the windows and pulling the door handle up to pop the passenger side lock to let someone in.
Im looking forward to the black rubber floor vs carpeting and now being able to clean the seats with Fantastic and a rag to me is a plus...cloth interiors to me are more work than there worth in a truck.
Also another thing I like is the manual transfer case and manual hubs...I have seen two incidents over the years with friends yanking there hair out over getting there truck into FWD and/or getting it out.
I specifically ordered my 05 with a manual transfer case and had no regrets.
I will definitely miss the CC and also the ability to adjust the mirror glass from the drivers seat.
Thanks for the responses concerning the 6.2 gasser ...it puts my mind at ease some what ....also every response mentioned a "transmission flash"or "latest flash" what exactly does that mean ?
Thanks again
Bob

There was a software fix that Ford came out with after the initial '11 release for the transmission. You can ask them if they have, or had applied TSB 11-05-19. I attached the details of it below.
It fixes some quirkiness with the shifting.
Get either a new steering wheel with the buttons installed from a junkyard, or buy the insert below that Furian linked to
Either way you go, you have to remove the steering wheel. Connect the wires and put steering wheel back on.
After it's all installed, go down to the Ford Dealership and talk to the Service Techs. They have to look at another truck and pull the "As Built" data from it's Instrument Cluster. They copy this "As Built" data over to your current truck Instrument Cluster.
Presto, now your Cruise Control works. Be about 1/2 hour labor charge for the $$$. So about $250 all said and you will have a factory CC setup.
