Just purchased a '95 Bronco with the 5.0/5-Spd and I'm thinking of upgrading to a 5.8? Can you switch out the smaller motor for the larger and still use the electrics, bell housing and transmission from the 302? Also, if I'm looking to do this the easiest way possible, what span of years of manufacture should I be looking at..?
Thanks
yes this is a pretty easy swap if you find a complete 5.8 from oil pan to upper intake.
personally i would only run a 5.8 from 93-95 from either a bronco or f150. you can go from 93-97 if its an F250/F350 as those models never got strange goodies that would throw off your current wiring setup.
I would assume that bronco is mass air also which helps a bunch, you can keep the computer you have in there.
what you will need is to make sure that the 5.8 gets the proper flywheel to match up to the motor. dont swap your 5.0 flywheel it wont work.
honetly i think the best bang for your buck would be to find an F250 4wd running a 5.8/zf 5speed/tcase and swap that right in. keep and run all your current wiring and have a sweet runner for sure. you could transplant your 5.0/tranny/tcase into the F250 and resell it. probably for the same price haha
