I am sure this has been covered before but my search didn't find it. At 110k on my 2008, I am sure my PCV needs to be replaced but I don't have a clue as to where it is located. Anyone changed theirs and can give an old dude some help finding it and any assistance on replacement would be greatly appreciated.
Not sure if the 3v is the same as the 2v, but on mine it is located on the top of the passengers side valve cover about halfway back. There is a thick insulated hose coming off of it. It just pulls out of the valve cover.
It is on the valve covers. If memory serves me right in order to replace the PCV valve on your 3V you have to buy the entire valve cover assembly because the PCV valve is not removable like on the 2V engines. If your oil consumption is low your probably better off leaving it alone.
OK, thanks. I remember now one of the Ford mechanics saying that it is tied to the inside of the valve cover and was a PITA to replace. So a sign the PVC is going bad is a sudden increase in oil consumption? Is that the only clue? Thanks-
OMG! You need to replace the whole valve cover? Why did Ford design it that way? PCV valve should be easily replaced. It's like saying you need to replace your axle to change the brake rotors.
Probably cheaper for Ford that way, who knows. The trucks get more and more disposable and serviceable every year. All Ford is really concerned about it getting the truck past the warrenty period without costing them money, then it is your problem.
Expect it to get worse as the years go on, the vehicles get more complicated. Material cost increases, labor cost increases and the amount of time between complete redesigns is shortened.
I'm going through about a quart every oil change or 4000 miles.
I sure would not be concerned with that amount of consumption. I check oil level at least every week sometimes more depending on how much I drive.
