Hi as can tell i am new to the forum. i have always come to ford-trucks for all my questions and love the responses. anyway to the point. i have a 2003 ford f250 4x4 6.0L powerstroke. since i bought it, it has never really started, cranked but no start. I know i know why the hell did you buy it well the price was right and i was pretty confident on the issue. so i bought the truck. my first instinct was to go straight for the icp, i unplugged it and sure enough started, idle really low and died after maybe minute and some change. so i began my search for the issue. this is what i have done and come up with so far. fuel pump is pumping fuel, and the ficm is getting enough volts. so this is where i am stuck. my question is..whats next? do i just go and replacing sensors or could it be more? the truck as the egr delete, has upgraded coolers, and i dont see signs of any head gasket leaks.(no i dont know if head studs been done or gaskets replaced) in the army so my schedule and how often i can check the forum will be random but any help would greatly be appreciated. thank you
Normaly when it wont start and you unplug ICP and then it starts you have a Bad ICP Sensor
But since yours Died soon after IDK must be really close on having enough press to even fire the injectors
when you unplugged the ICP sensor was there any OIL on the Pigtail????
i just ran for the codes, borrowed a reader from my bubby. it shot out p2285 the icp code then i cleared it pluged it back in and no success. it did bring up the icp code though after i tried starting it and ran for readings on the scanner. which seems clear that it would be the icp but from everything ive heard and seen having it unplugged should have been makin it run. i will say that everytime i turn it over it is trying to start but just isnt enough to get it running
i had great fuel pressure on mine and it wouldnt start...ended up putting 12 volts on the fuel pump under the cab and it started right up! fuel pressure and the pumps can be easily deseving
got an update. i havent hooked up any scanner up yet. changed the fuel filters, went and got a cam shaft sensors, and a new ipr sensors. still no luck! i checked volts down to my fuel/water separator and its getting 11ish volts. my next check will to maybe just run straight power to it like suggested. if no one else has any ideas, i think im gonna have to break down and trailer it to Ford and have them hook it up and tell me whats going on.
yea i been researching more on the scanguage gonna go out see if i can find one. those sensors i aint to hurt bout replacing. the ipr was in rough shape and cam sensor was just for extra insurance
If so, then what is the ICPv reading? What is the FICM Mpower reading? Just saying "getting enough volts to the FICM" is not enough information. That is why we need to know the SYNC info!
What about oil level? What about filters (fuel and oil)? OEM filters and recebtly changed?
Have you load tested the batteries (just looking at volts doesn't tell you enough)?
Will it start better and idle better with the belt off? How about disconnecting the Cat (if you still have one)?
What do you mean the IPR was rough? Tell us what you specifically mean here.
Did you replace the ICP (since disconnecting it seemed to help)? What about the pigtail?
sorry for taking so long. work has been something. well i charged my batteries holding over 13volts, got the scan gauge II and got what readings i could. the fuel filters were just replaced like a week ago. the ipr had the sunk screen and the outside of the sensor was the rough look. this is a northern truck and the winter roads arent so kind to things. i havent done oil filters, was gonna do that once i got it running if that ever happens ha. i think i forgot to mention i have an egr delete and i have 4'' exhaust to a single stack right of the turbo.
icp with it hooked up got up to 890 (i didnt wana run the started on it long as not to burn it out) but i unplugged it got the default of 1500 and still no luck
ipr koeo was 14.4 and turning over got 77.6
got sync
cvi 4
vfd turning over 40.5
flp koeo was 12.5 i wasnt getting anything when i cranked
i didnt get any readings for fmp, ebp, mfd.
i dont know what the normal readings should be for a few of these, and with the ones i didnt get readings i will check to make sure i enter the numbers right on them.
