Clearing engine bay 96 5.0

Is there anything outside of the smog pump and charcoal filter on a 96' 5.0 that you don't need? I'm trying delete anything that's not needed.. As of now the smog pump is gone

Be prepared to fight a losing battle if you remove all the 'smog' stuff. In '96 all vehicles went to OBD-II and it monitors a LOT more than the older OBD-I (EEC-IV) did. You're going to be setting all sorts of emissions codes which will make the truck run full rich all the time. So say goodbye to your fuel mileage.

What if I keep the EGR stuff and just remove the smog pump?

Messing with EGR stuff will set off codes and screw fuel/air mixtures etc. up. Best bet is to just leave that stuff the way it is.

I know I lost MPG when I removed mine. There is no gain in doing this.

If your Cats are gutted then you should already have CEL. Also there are vacuum lines in the "smog" pump system. If you remove the emissions valve then you will get a CEL.

The 'smog' or A.I.R. (thermactor) system is controlled by the computer via two vacuum solenoid. TAB, thermactor air bypass, and TAD, thermactor air diverter. The computer opens and closes the solenoids to allow either allow air to be blown into the cat or exhausted to the atmosphere. Also in '96 they included the ability to detect back flow. I don't know how, but that's the code I get right now with a BAD air pump. I get 16mpg out of a RCSB with the 300, m5od and 2.73 rear gears... I should by all rights be getting at least 18 to 19. When I pull the codes it's all related to the A.I.R. system.

What he said ^, as you can see, it messes the 300. It hurts the 302 performance too.

The "charcoal filter" you removed from behind the battery is a vacuum reservoir (it resembles a big powedered milk can, right?)... you will really make that truck run like s***... You're asking questions but you aren't listening to anyone. I would say: It's your truck, do as you please with it.
