Fuel Tank Replacement
I own a 96 F250 and am in the process of replacing the tanks. The rear is done and now I'm onto the side tank. When I ordered the tank I was asked if I wanted a 16 gal. or a 19 gal. Since this truck is a tow rig, I decided to go with the 19 gallon.
Well the tank doesn't want to fit. For a few reasons. One, the hole for the filler is smack dab in the middle of a crossmember. If I slide the tank back and forth, I hit the second issue. If I move it forward, it hits my t/c. If I move it back, it doesn't clear the axle. I think it'd work if the truck was a 4x2 since the t/c wouldn't be in the way. Could that be a mistake I made? Perhaps the 19 gallon tank only fits 4x2s? Or did I just get the wrong tank? I set them side by side and they seem like it would fit, but the new tank is just too long.

Another issue I have are the straps they gave me are way too short.
This truck was an old highway department truck so its a little different than the typical F250. It has a 351 and 4.10s. There are a few quirks about it that make it difficult to identify what parts I have.
Here's the truck:

So any help would be great.
Thanks.
Damnit. I ordered this awhile ago and just got around to it today. I'm hoping the local place I got this from will exchange it.
Thanks for the help.
I just recently converted my '92 F150 to 4 wheel drive. My truck to start with was a standard cab long box, 2wd, with a 19 gallon tank. When I was putting the 4x4 transmission/transfer case under it, I didn't think it would work at first because of how close the transfer case was against the front tank. With the tranny all bolted in, I have a few inches of space between the transfer case and front of the front gas tank.
The 19 gallon SHOULD fit just fine under yours, but I'm wondering if your transmission is maybe slightly longer or something? That could affect it, depending on what type of tranny it is.
