Pace Car - Welcome to FTE. However, you aren't going to get much love if you hijack someone's thread, as you are doing here. This thread is about spark plugs.

You should create a new thread by going here and then clicking New Thread in the upper left - a big button just above the Threads In Forum bar. Then explain what your truck is and what the problem is and I'll bet you will get help quickly. EDIT: No need, as it has been done for you, here. See, I told you that you'll get help quickly.

Also, go into User CP, for Control Panel, and fill out your info - especially the location. I'm particularly curious as I'm going to be spending some time in Italy next Spring. Who knows, maybe I'll be in your town.

Thats funny. You guys are very nice! I saw it last night and assumed given the language and total lack of relevance to the topic, that it was some sort of spam. I totally ignored it because of that. And no worries on the hijacking. I hope no one thinks i was being a pissy lil girl when i asked for more comments on my original post!

Ok, I haven't tried them, many of these things are "snake oil" and I don't mean the kind Shelby sold. The idea seems to be to increase the life of the plug by having a larger area for the spark to jump to. I agree with the problem of blocking more of the spark "window". Many people, especially racers "index" their plugs to put the side electrode away from the piston to help ignite the fuel better.

I wish I had a nickel for everyone of these gimmicks I have seen come and go, then every time gas prices go up reappear in a different form. At $5.99 each, they better install themselves, that's twice as much as the OEM Motorcraft plugs!

I try to research stuff before I buy it for my truck. I tend to trust the guys on HorsePower TV.

This is what convinced me to try them.

Thanks for all your input Nolan. It would be great if someone had taken the time to chart the performance or lack thereof in our old trucks. Just a baseline #, a standard cap/rotor,wires,plugs tuneup #, and then switching out the new OE plugs for e3. Would be interesting to see. I do know that even if you had such test results on a camaro or lawnmower, or anything else, that those results wouldn't necessarily be the same for our trucks and vice/versa.

Interesting, a couple of things. They were talking about burning E85 which I haven't even seen here. They used a Chevy engine for the tests and obviously have the capability to adjust parameters as needed to optimize the results. The flame front that was shown concerns me, any time you have an irregular flame front, you're pushing the envelope on detonation.

I do agree with the basic premise that the diamond opening will probably outlast a standard plug, the basis of which goes well back into the late 19th century. Modern engine management technology such as sequential injection, coil on plug or individual coils, changeable intake runner lengths, variable valve timing etc. have drastically improved power, economy and emissions.

Maybe when I build my new engine I will try them after I get my baseline with regular plugs.

I put them in my truck as soon as I got it so I don't have any performance history. But my Mustang with a 3.8L jumped from 18mpg to 21mpg with the E3's. It does have a Bama Tuner and that Tune just loved those E3's. And my son's truck has a 5cyl engine and the E3's stopped the vibrations. It idles smooth with them.

That's about all I got on them. Nothing scientific just my personal experience. But if you use regular plugs you should index them like 85lebaront2 mentioned. I have always done that.

So, what mileage were you getting in what driving conditions? And what are you getting with the plugs in those conditions with no other changes? And, what transmission do you have? What gears and tires?

Are you running the stock ignition box? I've got an MSD system and I've wondered how it would work with the E3s. With those three firing points that'd be an awful lot of spark going on.
