Ya I called my dealer today & they said they only sell the whole IPR, thought maybe it was one of those "non serviceable" Ford parts that u can actually get the part for if u know where to look
I have a new IPR unit ready to install and the coil reads a steady 10.6 ohms. A buddy with an older 7.3 (who is electrically inclined) found his coil to be bad, replaced only the coil and he was good to go.
I would suggest when suspecting an IPR issue to easily remove the coil and check the resistance - that's a no-brainer.
I put a new ipr in my truck sometime last year, and it started stalling when switching tunes. I swapped out the electromagnet from the old ipr and the issue was gone.

Any idea where he was able to get just the electrode from?
Bigtruc,
I too am interested in if and where one can find just the coil.
He purchased the whole unit and did not wish to mess with the other part.
The whole unit is a little testy to get to and remove.

I stopped by International today with coil in hand. As soon as I placed it on the counter the parts lady said "You can't buy that separately....only comes with the IPR assembly. You are about the 12th or 13th person who has come in this month looking for that very item...."
List price for the IPR (part number 1841086C91) is $672.40.
My company discount price is $380 and some change AND....there is a core charge of $98.50 also.
Talk about highway robbery. This is the same place that tried to charge me over $500 for a fan clutch last summer...
I am going to have a talk with the manager over there. Our corporate fleet manager is retiring on Friday so I'll be in charge of my local fleet going forward. I'll be totally done with International unless they start being a little bit more reasonable with their prices.
Holy Bejeezus... Hate to see the prices for someone walking in off the street. Wow!!! That ain't Walmart fer sure.
No doubt....
That's why I really value the various vendors such as Riffraff, Diesel-O-rings and PartsGuyEd (when he was in business...). We have a Parker store here in town where you can get stuff in a pinch but Bob has done such a great job assembling the various parts and offers a reasonable price that it's just easier to order from him or Clay when time permits. International did help me out a few weeks ago with a pair of HPOP hoses at $95 each...but I had to practically beg them to sell it to me for that price.
For our work fleet...I can literally order 3 sets of HPOP hoses from Clay for less than one single tow bill to International. As soon as I am in charge of my work fleet, Clay will be getting a pretty big order of stuff.....I hope he is ready.
