PS Swap
Mounting the power steering pump can be a challenge. Pulleys and brackets vary from engines. If you plan for this issue the swap will go much better. But like John said it is a fairly simple deal. Park both trucks near each other and go slowly. Use jack stands and do not take any chances with heavy things falling on you. I like to hang the gear box on a chain and set it with a engine hoist. This way I have control. I also go over each part I plan to use before I rip everything apart. Core the MC, calipers and discs. Replace all the rubber stuff (belts, hoses, rag joint). You will need the steering column from the 79 and the brake pedal arm. Bit more complicated than you first thought eh? Have at it many here have done this swap and help is available.

1978: Ford changed the P/S pump on everything (except Econolines and Passenger Cars with Hydro-Boost *). This pump has a plastic reservoir.
The P/S pressure hose on the pump end has a straight tube with an o-ring on it. Connects to the pump w/a qwik connect fitting. There are no FE P/S pump mounting brackets for this pump.

thanks, sound way too complicated for me to attempt without a baby sitter.
Piece meal sounds more my style. half assed is my style these days.
I thought 800 was a good price with the f150 it runs good but has no bed.
might be easier to do a body swap

Later pump will not fit early bracket.
Ford accessories suck as there is a million differing combinations of pulleys brackets and pieces.

Plastic reservoir pump introduced in 1978, FE engines cancelled at the end of the 1976 model run.
Plastic reservoir pump is smaller in diameter than the 1965/77 steel reservoir pump.
Where will you find brackets to mount the 1978 and later plastic reservoir pump to a 1965/76 F100/350 w/an FE engine?

Yeah and to complicate it further mine has the 77 300 6 banger on it. This info was ascertained from the assistance of ND. I can say that you all got me afu...

Don't quit just yet! I was given the front frame section from a '79 F 150. The guy was making a trailer from the rest. I used everything from the clip on my '66 f100. Swapped the axles, power steering, power brakes, brake line brackets, and it all fit like a glove. Now the disclaimer! I have a 302 in my truck. The plastic power steering pump fit my application. It may very well fit your 300 also, but I do not know that for sure. What I do know is this brake and steering swap will make a totally different driver out of what you have now.
