They used to be good when they were made in the US.
Now the are Mexico junk.
I have the Sears Diehard Platinum's and love them.
They are a AGM battery with a 4 year 100% warranty and I think it is a 100 month prorated.
Has anyone tried the Optima batteries? Are they worth the money?
I've got the Optima red tops for the last 3 years and they have been good.... was replacing the factory Ford batteries every 2 years so these guys already have a year on top of the OEM batteries. I also bought a new DC Power alternator so hopefully that will keep my batteries from crapping out. I had used Optima red tops in the past in other vehicles as well and never had any problems with lifespan or voltage output.
I've also had good luck with some of my other vehicles using Odyssey batteries... they will likely be the next batteries I put in my truck.

Hi Roasted7,
berick is correct, our batteries come with a special mounting device that works with the factory hold down to secure the battery. I have ran RedTops in my vehicles for years, long before I worked with Optima. Recently I had them in my 03 Duramax and no issues at all. I traded for a Suburban and RedTop is doing fine. There are always folks that start the Mexico junk posts on any thread, but the truth is our quality control has never been better and we are producing the best batteries now we have ever produced dut to constant QC scrutiny. We offer a three year free replacement.
One other thing to keep in mind, the warmer the climate the harder it is on battery life so when posting questions about batteries and battery life, always be aware of where the posters are from. I live in Pigeon Forge, Tn, and while it gets hot here, it is nothing like say Phoenix, Arizona in the summer so I can expect longer battery life in general.
I hope this helps,
Thanks,
Bill Howell

I have 2 Red Tops for about a year now. No trouble so far. I have an onboard Battery Tender that I usually utilize during the winter months. My batterys are small compared to the battery tray. You have to slide the battery to one way or the other before clamping down. The fit is not perfect, but good.
Two Blue Tops in my boat 4 years now & I beat the snot out of them. One is starting to show some weakness.
Yellow top in my girls car installed about 3 years ago no issues yet.
Well, I got the red tops. Just need to make sure they're charged up and install. These things better kick *** for the money I just shelled out.
I don't think you will be dissapointed, have had the red top in wifes Tahoe now for around 4 years and it's great.
Myself I put in the blue tops for my truck and they are awesome, it's not even compareable to the lead acid one's that I pulled out. The amperage ratings were the same but the reserve power is 3 times of standard lead acid battery.
Have heard there is a new battery technology out there and the new Sears Diehard is one selling it, and I think that Optima is making something too.
I do think it sucks that Optima moved to Mexico and the prices have not been reduced even though surely the labor costs are a tenth of what they were paying here in the states. I'm sure the EPA was impossible to work with in regards to making batteries here and probably had a lot to do with it.

You will like them..... I ran them in all my sports cars and hotrods and never once had a single complaint. They are a step up from the OEM batteries for sure! Now you need a DC Power alternator to make sure they stay topped up!
