box cutting
Can anyone out there tell me if I can turn my long bed into a short bed?
Only the box. I'm having a real hard time finding a short bed for my 73 dent. When I do, these people want a flippin fortune, and thats for the
smashed and rusted out one.
My long bed is in great shape. So how do I shorten that thing up by 16 inches?

The same principles apply.... the bed's cross members may have to be relocated to match up with your frame.

good friend of mine has done several of them. all fords. last one was a 68 he cut both the front and back so it would still the same as a factory one. it surely can be done, you just need a good body man.

I do have some skills. I went to body and fender school, and I'm an ironworker. Plus I will take my time. I am really looking forward to getting this thing started. I also have a really good freind who is a very good body man that offered his help.

Btw, the sectioned frame should have been a Z-cut, not a slant cut IMO.

Plus, I would say that that fish plate is wrong too. I would cut a rectangle piece, and not weld across the web of chanel. Put horizontel weld across top and bottem to the inside heel of chanel. Outside of chanel, drill two 3/8" holes both sides of cut, and plug weld to fish plate, grind smooth. very strong.
