Short Bed Options
Hey guys, Been going over everything and getting everything planned for my 77 but been coming up short on a short bed for it. Currently my 77 has a 86 bed on it, is there anyway to get the replacement long bed sides for a 73-79 seeing that they have full corners and all and cut them to short bed length and hang them on the 86 bed? If so where would the cutting be at infront of the wheel well? after? I'm looking for options instead of driving to Illinois and spending $1500 on a bed.

Curtis, I have a 73 SWB F100. I'm running in to the same problem. I actualy have the bed that goes to my truck, but it's in terrible shape. I don't want to pay 1500 for a bed either. I finnaly decided that I'm going to buy an 84 model SWB step side bed to put on my truck. There was a thread about doing this about a month ago. Some guys already did it, and it goesn't look bad. I did some checking around down here, and one of those beds runs about 250 to 350 bucks down here.

A buddy is doing that exact same thing to his 79 short box right now, he just took his bed off last night and he already has the long box sides (his box is a 79 also not an 86). He is having a guy that has done this before (so he says) do it for him. He says he cuts the box sides down from the front of the box, not real sure how much as of yet. I will be watching this project as close as I am allowed (hope to take pics of the process and will post them here or maybe in the "Completed Major Restoration & Modification Projects, Announce only NO replies" section when finished). -Ed
