Well, you'll probably think I'm pretty dumb, but I promise I'll be smarter in the future.
To start, I have a bad radiator leak, and I've got to fix that. But to make matters worse, I apparently also have an oil leak. The result? I was on a dump run last week, and while idling, waiting to get on the scale, my poor 'ol '73 turned itself off, being dry of those two elements it needed to run well. I quickly put some oil in it, and it will still crank, so it's not completely siezed, but I think I burned it pretty bad, it was stinky like burned engine.
So, what should I do? Would an overhaul, tune-up, oil change, new gaskets and such do the trick? One guy told me my coil is probably fried. I have some experience fiddling with different engines, and I want to climb into the engine compartment and work on it myself, but I could use a few pointers. Any suggestions (aside from 'yeah, get yourself a bicycle')?
If it will crank, make sure you have oil and coolant and try to get it to run. It may have just overheated and not burned up. These engines aren't like the modern engines with wimpy aluminum heads.
