What color should I paint my stock rims?

Hey all,

I need some help choosing a color for my 16" stock rims. I managed to get them from this:

to this:

and then this on Friday:

They won't win any awards for show quality, but they are much cleaner than when I started. At any rate, the paint job I'm putting on them is temporary, just looking for a cool or fun color to run with until I do a serious tear down, when I'll probably go with body color (the truck is a '49). The faded meadow green/rust color combo is what I'm stuck with for the foreseeable future:

I'm leaning towards gloss black, but I had also considered gloss red. I think semigloss black might hide the imperfections a little better though. What do you guys think?

Semi-gloss black is my vote with the look of the truck now. What color do you forsee in the future?

I'm indecisive. Probably body color if I want it to look like a '49, black if I want it to look more like a '48. But that's a ways off, right now I'm just trying to get the truck street legal again [edit - just talking about the rim color here...]

IMHO, Gloss black never hides imperfections. Darker colors show issues more. Red sounds good though.

I wouldn't put any effort into them, when you pick your body color you'll want to change them and have to remove that much more paint. No offense but the primer kind of blends in with your truck's patina.

If your truck is going to be black, paint them RED! Black wheels on a black truck show no imagination at all!

Thanks for the feedback guys. The plan for the truck is patina for now, then once I get into a place that I can do the bodywork it'll get painted meadow green or some other similar period greenish/bluish/greyish color.

I just need to decide what rim color will go best with the patina for now. I had considered running the primer color, but l am a sucker for shiny paint...

If you're going with a green or gray, paint them chrome yellow. That will go with the patina and the new paint so you won't have to paint them again! If you don't mind painting them twice, red goes with patina nicely!

I voted for gloss black for two reasons. First, red looks like a hot rod. Second, you will want your wheels to look good when you do finally paint your truck. If you paint the wheels gloss black now you will know if the wheels have imperfections you need to deal with before the final restoration is done.
