guys, not sure whats goin on. I replaced the p/s rear calipert hinking it was leaking. Well, still have a leak. Nowhere does it show on the caliper now and hard/soft lines. Whats weird is that, prior to having a blow out at the ramp (that was fun), there was no sign of fluid. I had to limp the truck up the ramp to the parking area (200yrds), changed tire and went on with the weekend. Didnt notice the fluid until last night, but brakes seemed good.
Anyway, replaced the caliper and still its wet from some where. I also adjusted the ebrake, but forthe life of me, can not get it to grab. Found the "star" at both sides, and still will role with pedal to floor.
Question is, does the ebrake have anything to do with this fluid loss and for the reason its not grabbing?
No the E-brake is all mechanical. You have to adjust both wheels. If you got the e-brakes wet they won't hold. I put new shoes on mine and they still didn't hold. Got a little better as time went on, but stil not great. If its brake fuild you are seeing, it mitt be a line being you blow a tire. Have somebody work the pedal and look real close. Start the motor also.
ok, got rotor off, and the entire inside is soaked, smelling like gear oil. Anyone know how to go about get'n to the seal? Theres the end of the axle thats in the way, then all the ebrake shoe assy stuff.....really appreciate it guys.
no offense man, not sure if ur link isthe same, but found this from "camodown"....from the looks of it though, not sure if his link illustrated just the outer seal or if thatsthe only seal there....Mine looks to be leaking from within.
You got to knock it out. Sometimes you will damage the bear also if you knock against it. When I did my E-brakes I replaced both seals, inter and outer, and bearing. Had one outside bearing by looking close that was just starting to go bad. There not that exspensive and it should last a long long time. My e-bakes looked new but still didn't hold well. So I put new on and they too didn't hold real well. Its just a bad design. Rememeber to check your Diff fuild when done and top off or change. Its Syn 75/140.
Chet
Thanks Chet...just ordered those seals that CAMO listed. When i getthere, i'll have them explode the screen and see about the inner seals. Got me the new pads as well and the special socket on order, should be in tomorrow...
