Check out the Pcv Valve on the left valve cover. If it is not working properly it can cause excess oil consumption.

Toddb1, have you checked your Pcv and the hose? I was seeing about 1 quart used every 1,000 miles until I changed the Pcv hose. They commonly crack, causing a vacuum leak and preventing the PCv from functioning.
Yes I have, I put a catch can on there that was left over from a previous project and it doesn't collect much oil. I have tried 4 different oils with no change in consumption. It only burns it on these long, high rpm hill climbs. The early modular motor had issues with guide seals. I don't use it enough to tear into it so I'll just top it off.
I also installed a Fumoto Oil Drain Valve, one of the best investments I ever did. No more worries of stripped threads or some dummy not tightning the plug.

I just bought one of these, just waiting for my next oil change to install. After that shouldn't have any more oil spills. I bought the one that can have a hose put on. I use a old 5 gal. gas can to store my oil in so I will be able to drain right into it.
Yep, it takes a little longer for the oil to drain, but it's worth it to me. Make sure you use the plastic gasket/washer and just snug it really good but don't rief on it or the washer will squash and leak. Ask me how I know.

Will be replacing my pcv valve asap! My truck has 77k and is burning 1.5qts per 5k oil change. What is the function of the pcv? And I'm getting conflicting info - for my 2003 V10, is it part number EV-248 or EV-233? Thanks

The system ventilates the crankcase. The lines from the valve covers to ventilate the system is connected to the intake to put back into the engine to be burned.
EV238 is the part number that comes up for your year truck. It takes seconds to replace. Inspect the hoses for any cracks or cuts.
