My AC/Heat is only blowing through th defrost vents on the top window which is not going to be fun in the Atlanta summertime. I noticed that one of the vacuum lines coming from the compressor area is hanging loose, but am not sure where it goes. Could this be part of the problem?
Air blowing out of the defrost only means that there's no vacuum getting to the dash. That loose hose is probably the cause. With the engine running there should be a hissing noise from the spot where that hose is supposed to hook up to. On my 94 there's a vacuum "tree" on the cowl. Your loose hose may have come from there.
Like jimmyk57 said, inspect the vacuum tree at the rear of the engine. See if any other vacuum hoses need changing. There's been problems with oil soaking the hoses in that location.
Also, be sure to inspect the check valve that's inline to the vacuum canister. A time or two, mine has gone bad. On hot days in Atlanta around noon, I would start my van and only have defrost vents. By the coolness of night or morning, the vent operations would return.
