OK, thanks for the replies. Sorry to be so ignorant on the subject, but I've never owned a 4WD so this is all new to me. In fact, I've never had to deal much with suspension at all. I'm fairly competent with motors and most mechanical things I can figure out. I noticed the broken spring when I got home from work yesterday, and then made this post. I took a closer look at it this morning before coming to work (drove the wife's car) and was pretty freaked out to see that the only thing holding the right side of the front axle to the frame was the rear shackle. the rear shackle is at an angle and comparing it to the driver's side, it looks like the right side shifted back about two inches or more. I guess I should count myself lucky that I made it home without incident.
I figured the five spring set was made up of thicker leafs. The truck is not really ever used for hauling anything heavy, not on a regular basis. If some hauling needs to be done I'll do it, but that last time that was needed was when we moved. I don't really do any wheeling, so I hope going cheap will work for me.
Youre a helluva lot more competent and accepting of information than the average newblet that wanders in here.
Yeah, I guess I've seen some of those folks that already know it all. I'd rather learn from folks that have really done it rather than just read about it. (That's what SHE said.)
Would you recommend replacing all the nuts and bolts, or just as needed? Do y'all use any locktite on this stuff? I'm am going to have to replace u-bolts. They're bent up because somebody before me didn't flip them.
good. E-kick me in the **** to make some updates. Seems between a 7 month old, work and work on other peoples trucks I have no time to finish my own.

Yup but new bolts go together real nice. If you do reuse the old bolts take a wire wheel to the threads real quick and some silver antiseize will make life down the road a helluva lot easier.
New leafs from LMC came last weekend while I was out of town. I gotta figure out what I'm gonna use for jack stands. I don't have any empty beer kegs laying around. I've tried, but I just can't drink that much beer in time, and whiskey bottles won't hold it up.
