It's the same color my 40 was, 72 Ford Maverick Grabber Blue. My wife insisted that we paint it that color. It's funny, she's not that happy I bought the truck and spending money on it, but as she see's progress her mind is slowly changing. Now that she got to pick the color, that's even better.
My 40 was a pick-up. I went to a place called Paint FX in town to get my supplies. I had custom made bombs with a 2 stage catalyst for the clear coat. The small area's are too much work to fill my gun and clean it. I used a base coat clear coat. the clear bomb has a compartment in the bottom with catalyst, all you have to do is insert a activation button in the bottom of the can, press down and it releases the catalyst, and you have 24 hrs. to use it up. I'd never dream of using bomb's to paint the body. My Buddy's son (my god-child) Is a very good body man / painter, and he'll put the color on and do the finish body work. I hope I can have my glass guy come in and put the winshield in this week. I've done a lot of glass work, but need a hand with this one due to the design of the windshield.
If you post pictures of your 40, that would be great. What happened to it or hopefully you still have it?
I sold the 40 to buy the house we're in now Jordan was almost a year old. I have a couple of old build pictures that were given to me by a neighbor. I was never a big picture taker, but will try to scan some old pic's and post them. When the guy came and got the truck, Dawn and I actually cried. I bought that truck when I was 17. Back in the day before the internet everything was catelogue or trial and error, mostly error. lol. This build on my 56 is light years ahead of the 40 due to this site and the net. I had more money back then, but half the stuff I tried didn't work or looked really bad. there wasn't a lot of guy's building these trucks or even cars around here back then. It was T bucket's, model A's or Duece's. That was late 70's, early 80's. I kept the truck till 98. If I had the passion then that I have now, I would still have it and probably the 56 too
yamagrant, did you weld on the universal to the column or was the column already a DD or splined? Ive had the same kit sitting in my shop for almost 2 years and havent gotten around to it yet.
My column was already a DD, I bought a Borgeson joint and it fit like a glove. The Toyota box has a spined shaft with a pinch bolt and the DD end is drilled bolted and a set screw for back-up.
