Seafoam & Fuel

How do you guys feel about Seafoam? Super Crew short bed is a 29 gallon tank? Also, picked up a Scan Gauge II today.

Noted. I was just trying to clean injectors, fuel system, etc. I heard good things about it, but will research more. Thanks for the input. Any other opinions out there?

I used it in my 6.0 and it did exactly what I wanted it to. Stopped a hesitation I was having. That was 2 years ago and it hasn't come back.

Are you already using a fuel additive (Cetane Boost - white jug), Rotella T6 (5w-40), stock filters on oil and fuel? If not, try that first.

Ford did my last oil change, so stock filter and their oil, and the fuel filter is stock. Not using cetane or any other additive.

I do notice that when I forget cetane boost it seems to black up the rear fender from the pipe. It stays pretty clean as long as I have fuel additive in it, burns cleaner hate washin truck its easier to poor in cetane.lol

If your engine runs good I wouldn't use it. If not you should diagnose the root cause before using this product.

If you change your oil every 5k miles you most likely won't ever have an oil related problem with varnish.

Great Stuff!

I have used it in my 6.0l fuel and engine oil for 7 years. When I change the oil I add two cans. I put a can in the fuel tank every other fuel up. I have used it in my boats, farm equipment, etc. for 20 years. Never had an issue, it cured some stalling problems on gas applications and it is a great fuel stabilizer.

Awesome, thanks for the input. I think I may put a can in a full tank and see how it goes. If I do not tell any difference I'll take it from there. I have only had the truck for about 2 months, so I don't know how it ran when it was newer as compared to now.

I've never been a fan of Seafoam in fuel or oil on our trucks for a big reason. It's a solvent and while it's good at disolving whatever gunk it comes accross, it is VERY good at eating o-rings.

Case in point:

Fall, early winter 2010, my truck had a bad injector (what I later found to be a bad IDM) and I read that seafoam could potentially cure the problem. It did, but it came at a price...

I ran seafoam for some time till I properly diagnosed the problem and got it fixed. Not long after, my truck slowly but surely developed leaks; leaks in places that our trucks don't usually have leaks. Anything that had an o-ring leaked and had to be replaced. To that end, I cleaned and rebuilt the top end of my motor with Viton o-rings. Since then, I haven't had a problem, but it was a very expensive and time consuming fix.

That stuff makes me nervous. Seems STRONG. I put some in the oil on my old V6 Trooper. Had a loud lifter. Ran it for 50 miles and sure enough it fixed it. Oil was BLACK. I am sure it cleaned some things up in there.
I have thought about trying some in the truck but cant bring myself to do it. Now, hearing the guy above that had problems with the orings, I dont think my truck is going to be seeing any.

Well, maybe against some advice, but I decided to go ahead and add a bottle to a full tank. Thought the 4 extra gallons of gas in the tank (the bottle says it treats up to 25) might dilute it a little more. I'll try to update in a few days to see if I notice any difference. Good or bad.

TO the guy that used it in his oil: Instructions that come with it says to NOT run it in your crankcase for a long period of time. I ran mine ABOUT 100 miles and drained it....as I said, that was over 2 YEARS ago. Has run GREAT since!
And NO oil leaks!

Either they've revised their instructions since then or I just never saw it. What's done is done and my truck is much better off since the top end rebuild.

Lucas diesel/gas additive is also something you don't run in these trucks. Not long ago, (as in two months ago) a buddy of mine (2007 F350) filled up and added some lucas to his fuel to "clean" the injectors. He ran through most of the tank and not long after, injectors #1 and #5 failed. We replaced a them both, but a few others seemed like they weren't too far behind. After an aggressive treatment of both Hot Shot Secret and Diesel Kleen (gray bottle), and changing the filters, we were able to dilute and purge whatever lucas remained saving the other 6 injectors.
