I have seen this little sucker hooked up before under the hood of my truck but somewhere down the road a mechanic must of moved it and it was tucked way down in the engine bay on the passenger side with this little plug thing in it. Does it need to plugged into something and what exactly is it?

Having the coolant filter "t" behind the heater control valve it won't have flow through the filter all the time. At some heat/AC settings the valve is off. I did mine the same way as yours because it looked right but I changed it.

Not my setup, when I had issues with my AC blowing out the defrost someone emailed me that pic. I wish I could remember to give credit to them.
I have my coolant filter connected in front and have flow all the time. My coolant filter came with black hose. Might upgrade to blue.
