So I feel like a dumbo. My 2002 F250 5.4L has been overheating, mainly when pulling a trailer. Without load, it tends to run on the high side of the white arc. I didn't realize that I needed different coolant and put GM Dex-Cool in it. That said, I have flushed the vehicle 6 times and am now going to change the radiator (as it is still overheating and the fins are about 30% bent). Here are my questions:
How will I know if I have a blown head gasket? (Thus far, no misfires nor codes.)
On my thermostat, is there an O-ring that goes with it (didn't find it in the manual)?
What should I be looking for over what period of time? (I.E. leaks, sounds, etc. from my dumbo moment.)
Also, does anyone know what temp. the OE thermostat was? (I bought a 170*.)
