'82f150,straight6,standard. Truck died at stop light(been having idle problems but it always starts right back up if you give it some gas and keep it above 1k rpm. started it back and radio didn't come on, never done that before. Get down the hwy doing 60 or so and it just dies. Coast over to the side of road and try to crank it and all I get is a click. Got good electricity so I'm thinking coil? on second thought, the starter isn't spinning, but a bad starter shouldn't have affected it going down the road? Do I have multiple problems?
Turn the headlights on. Do they come on at all? If not, you have a dead battery.
If they do come on, then watch them as you try to crank it over. Do they go out completely? If so, you have a weak battery, a loose connection at the battery, or one of the large cables has a loose connection.
If the headlights stayed on when you tried to crank it, then you might have a problem with the neutral safety switch or the ignition switch.
Franklin2, yes the headlights come on strong and seem to hold power when I turn the key. The stereo does come on now when I turn the key but all I get is the click when I turn the key. I didn't know a standard tranny had a neutral safety.
