First Oil Change

So I almost have 3k on my new 6.7....I have already towed my 5th wheel about 1K miles. I am getting ready to go on a 2K mile round trip towing my 5th wheel. Should I get the first oil change before or after my trip????

Long after. With the way oils are formulated nowadays there is no reason to change your oil after 3000 miles. Unless you are hauling a lot of weight all of the time go until the truck says to change it(7000-7500 miles usually). Others might disagree, but that's the way I do it.

That's what I did, even with synthetics. I learned if I brought it into the dealer, it was a small fortune, I even started a thread ages ago about the "a.. reaming" I took.

Buying syn oil and doing yourself will come to around that as well. I had a dealer do an oil change and fuel filter. I can't remember the price but it was high 200's or something. I about passed out.

I will go against the grain and say change it now.

I am old school and have always considered the original oil (factory new or rebuild) to be a break in liquid, period.

Changed out MANY qts. of freshly installed oil over the last 35-40 yrs. Biggest reason is to get out any possible contaminants and/or bits of metal.

I changed my 2012 at just after 1K miles and now will follow a 5K change rate.

Look at it this way, is the future life of your engine worth $50?

if you take it to the dealer remind them that it only takes 13 quarts. I know that sounds stupid but the dealers are screwing it up all over the country. I took mine to my dealer they over filled it and I called them on it and they denied it so I took it straight to the other dealer in town and they drained it and 15 quarts came out of it.
