I have a Ford Expedition 2003 Eddie Bauer (4.6). One of sparks plug decided to leave the cylinder head for a better life and it took the threads with it. Long story short, I have to replace the cylinder head. I just assembled everything yesterday and this is what happened when I tried to start the engine.
1. First try: Engine started spluttering. Check the code and find out I forgot to plug the MAF.
2. Second try (and following tries). Once the MAF sensor is plugged the car make an attempt to start and just die. I have no code (well I have one code I'll explain below).
Our first assumption was to check the MAF and it is OK. It have the 12V and we checked the signal in it and is working.
Then we check the TPS sensor, it has the 5v and the voltage change when you move a accelerator.
The only thing changed was the DPFE. When I was taking apart the engine, I broke the connector to the hose, now the sensor is useless. And that's the only code I have in the computer, the P0402.
There's a multitude of things you can do with the scanner bypass certain modules and or sensors for test purposes, you can also run a "Auto Scan KOEO" which is what you want to do, as well as "Auto Scan KOER". This checks all the sensory and will let you know more/less immediately what could be failing
FP wouldn't be the culprit in this case, MAF wiring could be faulty as well or the unit could be damaged which i'm 50/50 on. Will it run with the IAC disconnected?
Did you put new intake gaskets on, and if so how many did you install, and where did you purchase them at.
The reason being in my experience there have been issues with the intake gaskets from FelPro, they have spacers in them that are not needed causing a vacuum leak.
I bought the intake gasket at Advanced Auto Parts and installed the three of them, I don't remember the brand but probably is FelPro. Bad experience with them, the timing chain cover gasket doesn't fit my car.
We check the MAF and it look OK, a little bit pricey to buy a new want only to test.
I will try to see how can I have the KOEO and KOER test.
I doubt the scanner you have will do it, let's go a little old school. Get a can of carb cleaner and check the mid gasket on the intake while the engine is running that could be your issue if the gaskets are felpro
Check the PCV line that runs from the PCV valve to the rear of the intake and make sure it is connected back there. Also, make sure the connector is plugged into the IAC valve.
