I have a 6.9 with P'stroke Non gated turbo. Last time I drove truck EGT started changing rapidly with throttle. Dropping so low I question wether it is working but a little throttle and the temp comes up quick but drops right back down when I back off. Boost seems to come up quicker than before. EGT used to run atleast 200 degree at idle and climb steady to about 900 if I stayed in it, came down slow also. I am afraid to drive truck with out knowing what is going on.
Thanks for help
94 IDIT, I have been wondering about sender. I connections look good, sender is about 1 year old. I have another unit I am planning on put in driver side manifold.
TJE, Was getting 200 at idle, 400-500 running peaking at 900. always gradual climb and drop. Now responds more like a vacuum gauge on a gas motor.
Took truck for a run. EGT seems to be acting normal but runing a little low. Before wood be at 400 when got home, could get down to 300 pretty easy before shut down. Now drops to 200 and seems to stay there. Also If I gose it, it revs up then dies when it comes down.
Mine idles at or just below 300 as well. And while it doesn't take long to get up or cool down, it's still not that fast. I agree that it may be the sending unit (thermocouple).
Forgot to mention IP has about 10,000 miles, injectors and engine have about 7,000 miles. glow plugs (ZD9) 7,000. EGT probe about 10,000 post turbo. I have an exhaust manifold tapped for EGT but have not been able to swap yet. Have seperate gauge and probe for manifold. Guess manifold swap will be my next step.
I did not think about it, my dieing problem could be from turning down IP. It was turned up to high when rebuilt. I have not turned idle back up. I am going out right now to swap driver exhaust manifold and install second pyro there. I will check them against each other and be able to tell if it is sender.
