Scary...

Hey all,

As most of you know Im waiting onmy DC alt. to arrive, but in the mean time, I had to use the truck and run a load of grass clippings from the shop and my house to the dump.

Voltage stayed up between 12.9-13.2, and I didnt shut the truck off, I didnt want to use it but the old 85 is down and out too. Well I forgot that I loaded Matts SRL tune with 20% fuel shut off and I stomped on it and the truck took off like a bullet, its amazing how fast these things are. Damn near scared the poop outta me...so while I was out and the tune was in I figured I would "exercise" the Power Max

So I guess the next thing I need to do is look into building the tranny so it holds together, anyone have any ideas for me, buy one built, look for a good used one and buy the Sun Coast kit and build it?

Anyone know a good builder in upsate NY that could handle the task or should I just bite the bullet and buy a built one with a warranty?

I have always been a little leary of causing damage to the tranny especially since I was stupid and had a Banks 6 Gun on it for about a year or so, I got some bad advice from a member here and it may be bting me in the but now that I added some new power.

First thing Im gonna do is replace the fluid and both filters and have a look see in the pan and put the tow tune back in it, which is all I normally run. I dont have any real issues as of yet , but every once and a while the 3-4 shift feels a little mushy, fluid is clean and doesnt smell burnt so Im hopin to get some time out of it.

Are there any Valve body upgrades that can/should be done while Ive got the pan off?

Thanks and sorry for the long post.

Since you're running a tuner try adjusting the shifting a little at a time for each gear. If one is too hard or soft go in 5% increments at a time until it is comfortable but crisp. Give it at least a couple of days between adjustments as it will learn over time.

AFA transmissions go and being that you're fairly "close" to Canada I'd recommend an NADP over Suncoast anyday of the week. That's just about as bulletproof as a 5R110 will get.

Great advice, Tim.
Ditto on all counts. Messing with the shift pressures is okay too do. Messing with the shift points (RPMs) is not.

Kinda off topic but your volts are 12.9-13.2 and you need a new alternator? On a hot day with a/c on that's what my volts are as well

Ian,

Yes my alt. is on its way out, those readings are with no accessories on except the stereo. If I turned on the A/C it would have dropped to around 11.9 or so. Like I said I didnt want to use the truck but I had too.
