I just replaced my starter and on my first ride after replacing it the X started to stumble a bit, and then would stall out at almost every stop light. It threw a CE light and I pulled the code P0720. I searched here and it seems most guys say this is a C.O.P. issue. If it is a bad C.O.P. would it stall like that?
I did have the battery disconnected but I made sure the terminals were clean and tight. Is this a coincidence or did I do something while changing the starter?
What was happening with me was the idle would drop and then stall, but I also had the P0722 also. Try some free things first: Clean your IAC and MAF first. If that doesn't do it then I would start looking at COP's.
I had the exact same thing happen, it was a COP. Once I found the bad COP changed it out, disconnected the battery and the code cleared. Runs great now. I'm betting it's a COP.
I tried the free things, same issue. I am going on a long haul trip this week ( towing ) and did not have time to diagnose which coil it is so I dropped it off at the Ford dealer.
Does anyone know the Ford TSB that related to a bad C.O.P. flashing the CE light and OD light? I saw it on here when searching last week but cannot find it now!

SOME 1998-2005 VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A GAS ENGINE THAT USES A COIL-ON-PLUG (COP) SYSTEM MAY EXHIBIT ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS DUE TO RF INTERFERENCE ON THE SCP/CAN NETWORK: ABS LIGHT FLASHING, A FLASHING FAIL SAFE COOLING LIGHT, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT FLASHING, INTERMITTENT 'BUMP'(MISS), TEMP GAUGE PEGGING HOT OR COLD, TACH OR SPEEDOMETER BOUNCE, BUCK/JERK AT CRUISE, AND/OR UNEXPLAINED CODES. THERE ALSO MAY BE AN INTERMITTENT LOSS OF RPM. PRIOR TO FOLLOWING NORMAL DIAGNOSTICS FOR THE SYMPTOM, USE TSB 05-22-08 TO DETERMINE IF THERE IS A CONCERN WITH A COP.
