First time towing...
I am happy to say that with the load on it and treating it like a standard (and using lots of gas) I managed to get up and down the hills even with the trailer on the ground (though I did manage to get the coupler all full of gravel heh.)
Nice story, was your dad driving on that trip or you?
I figure your about my age eh? Think I read somewhere you were 19. I'll be 20 in september. Most of my friends cant drive a truck let alone haul a trailer (or even consider doing it and not jumping a curb or hitting something) heck they cant even keep their cars between the ditches!!

I am actually pretty good at towing, been running them for 3 years now and use them probably 6-8 months out of the year. I am still working on getting adjusted to my truck, because the utility box on the back is high enough to block vision out the rear of the cab. I had to put full-size semi mirrors on it ($$$), otherwise I would have crushed a few riceburners in my blindspot by now.
You have a CB in your truck? I think I am going to install one. I had way to much fun with the cobra walkie talkies we were using on the way back.
What year is your 1 ton?
How's the rust in washington? My truck was restored in 98 (so thats 5 years of winter driving since then) and I need to do the cab corners bad, rockers pretty bad, piece in front of the rockers on drivers side bad and so-so on passenger side. Floor pan is still their, but its got pin holes.
Bah. I hate salt but I dont hate winter (certain things aside)

My 1-ton is a 79. It's red and white, and has a custom utility box on the back. It is a surplus fire department rescue rig. Before that it was an ambulance. Lots of aluminum treadplate. The main feature is the 18,000lb winch buried in the foot wide front bumper.
So, your truck was restored - thats awesome.
My truck was repainted in 94, but the paint job was cheap and resembles the surface of an orange.
My dad's truck - I have to laugh.
My dad bought his truck in 86. Within a month it was totalled. A powerpole fell on it. But, this truck would not die. It was rebuilt, and hit again in 94, t-boned by a Geo Metro doing 45. Damage to truck was slight, Metro was completely totalled as it slid underneath the truck.
And rust? Yes, we have rust. Our trucks aren't too bad, the 78 has been maintained very well and is in good shape. My truck has some rust underneath the floor, but nothing has rusted through yet. My utility box is aluminum, so thats not gonna rust anytime soon.
