It rained pretty good here yesterday and as usual I went puddle jumping. Well I proceeded to hit one on the road that was a whole lane wide, 4-6 inches deep and probably 12ft long. It was a blast right up and over my entire truck to the dismay of my grirlfriend, but after that my truck wasnt running very smoothly, could see teh tack bouncing around some then recovering to normal. Popped the hood when I got home and it didnt appear that anywater made it in the intake but the battery and rest of the engine you could tell had some good water just starting to come off. Let it idle for a minute and it was then fine. I plan to check the air box today for water to make sure, but could it have been the water on the battery screwing up the plug firing or the distributor cap? Im at a loss. Thanks.
I would definately check the distributor cap. See if it has any hairline cracks in it. Also, you might as well check all of your spark plug wires and the airbox like you mentioned.
yep ya go thru a puddle and splash the wires or distributor cap and the engine runs rough. and after a few minutes the engine runs good a gain because the heat from the exhaust dries out your wires or the engine heat dries out your distributor.new cap and wires should do the trick but you can get a distributor boot also. i think steve83 says from a newer crown vicotoria or another v-8 car.
Remove cap from distributor and wipe clean......spray some WD40 to displace any water and wipe with dry clean cloth...
also remove the distributor timing plug....remove chip and dry as needed....
replug and go. (when this gets wet the timing jumps around....and will make the engine run rough)
