Climate Control Unit problems
I lost vacuum to it a few years ago, and it defaulted to defrost only, yet this time I could not get it to blow through the defrost at all. Last fall, I finally rerouted the vacuum hoses in the dash so it would blow defrost so at least I could see where I was going. In February, I re-plumbed all the vacuum lines between the engine and firewall, plus I stripped all the vacuum lines from a wrecked Bronco and re-plumbed all the ones in the dash, it still didn't work right. The wrecked Bronco had already been robbed of the control unit, so I have been looking for another one, figuring that's got to be the problem.
About the first of April, I tore the dash apart and routed them back so the A/C would blow from the dash. This was getting old, so I searched all of the junkyards again but none had the control unit.
Today, I was unable to even turn the fan on, and a BB sized ball bearing fell onto the floor. Oops, this was it, time to tear it out.
I tore the unit out and the right side had broken off. The plastic tabs were all missing, letting the vacuum and electrical control plates come loose. After I figured out how it went back together, and were the ball bearing went, I used two nylon ties to hold it together, a quick fix
but it's working again. So, here is my tip for the day, if yours starts doing strange things, check the plate where the vacuum lines plug in, if it's loose, that could be the problem.
I thought you were asking a question! I was soo excited to think that even "gods" like you still had to ask the help of others once in a while... Guess I was wrong!

I ended up replacing the control panel....some of the plastic cable retainers had broken....
THen the Climate control valve (mounted on the AC drier) went out.....now it blows hot, ice cold air....using all of the above vents....defrost, AC ducts, floor ducts.
