Ok here goes. My truck: 1989 f150. 4x4. 4.9. 4 speed. 4.10 gears with lockers front and back. Engine has been hopped up a little. I have American racing wagon wheels with 31x10.5x15 all season tires. When I run down the road at 45 mph, I'm running 2000 rpm. Is my speedo messed up by my tires or is that about right? I still average 20-22 mpg unloaded.
speed sounds a little low. have you had the speedometer recalibrated after the tire install?
the easiest way to see if it is correct is to take a drive with a GPS unit and see if the speedometer matches the reading on the GPS.
i know you can get the gear from ford, but the are kind of expensive. the last time i got one they were like $10 each.
if you can figure how far off the speedometer is, post it up here and we should be able to figure out what gear you will need.
i have 4 different gears here. if one will work for you, it is yours for postage cost.
