gt40p heads were about the best factory offering, short of the gt40 or gt40x, which were offered through ford racing. (cobras got them from the factory, but that's the only ones i know of).
the gt40p heads came on the 2nd gen. explorers and helped that 5.0 make 210hp and 280 ft-lbs. worlds ahead of the 1984 offerings, which for lack of a better term -- suck.
those heads, a camshaft with about 210* @ 0.05" lift and around .470" valve lift, a good dual plane intake with a 500 or 600 cfm carb, headers and a decent exhaust should put you within spitting distance of 300hp, and almost that much torque. a cam in that range should also give you a nice broad torque curve so it will be fun to drive.
without the gt40p heads, and everything else, you are still looking at a fun engine, but probably in the 230hp (maaaybe 250hp range topps). not that bad either.
oh dang, now 300hp is what i'm talking about! could you link me to a camshaft i could buy that has those specs? yeah 300 is over twice what it has at the moment so im sure that would be plenty for my ole girl
i'm not saying this is *THE* cam to get
but it is the *TYPE* of cam to look at.
advertised duration in the upper 260's or low 270's. lift is the mid .470's. tighter lobe separation, vs wider to promote more midrange power vs top end HP.
that would be very nice to bad you don't live closer IDE give u a great deal on a good roller lower end with a 303 roller cam gt 40 and a weiand dual plane intake I have all the pieces just need to assemble I probably have another set of comp cam roller rockers too lol that's just all left overs from other engines I bought and built and changed stuff for no reason lol
