l bought my '54 a few months ago and it has some steel triangles welded on the back of the bed. It looks like these pieces were installed several years ago when this was still a work truck.
Was wondering if anyone had any insights as to the purpose of this detail? A brace?.....tailight protector?....?
I saw a '55 for sale on ebay this moring with a similar detail:
A lot of our trucks have (or had) the wraparound bumper extensions and braces to the top of the bedsides. With the tailgate down, the bedsides tend to flop around, eventually cracking the bottom rear corners of the bed.
Thanks guys; I am not doing a frame-off, just fixing and restoring what needs work or is missing. I believe this was a work truck into the 1980's and I think I will leave the braces in place for the past work truck look.
