So my truck got clipped sitting on the side of the street last week, bent the bumper up, smashed the tail light, , mangled the metal around the tail light, and ripped my molding off the side. I just got an estimate of 3000 today. Waiting to hear back from the insurance people, but im sure its totalled. I cannot get rid of this truck, i will be buying it back, but here's the question.
How should i go about fixing it? Buy a bed and spray some paint on it, and bolt it up?
I am working on a plate steel bumper for the back, so thats not a problem, but what would you guys do?
but the deal is, my bed is extremely rusty, it has no support anymore, the inside is like a trampline. So i could benefit from a new bed more than just a fix of a body panel.
If I were in your position, I'd get on CL and look up truck beds, or even go to JY..Grab you a bed that is in good shape, if you can paint it that's better cause your options can be opened more, but if you can't, just keep an eye out for the specific paint type. I know here in OK, I can pick me up a long bed for about $200-$400 on CL.
check the jy for a bed and save the rest of that money for something else on the truck. sorry for that side swipe on your truck but, hey now you can get another bed for it.
on a 23y/o truck you probably better off having a body shop premix your paint since you're truck has fadded a shade or two since new. get a new bed if your's is all rusty. where are you located? check your local CL like previously suggested.
Im up here in ND, and there's not a lot for sale on CL, but i can get one for 250 at the JY.
My truck was repainted three years ago, so i dont think it'll be too tough to match the paint to the front clip.
I would find the body shop that painted the front end then... They probably have the paperwork and paint codes still. They'll probably be able to mix you the paint... I know the body shop guy down by my small town keeps 1qt extra already mixed in his racks in the occasion that someone will come back again after hitting a deer and needing a hood/fender/bumper painted... Just a thought...
well it was painted by the guy that owned it last, not a body shop. So two 15 year old girls turned out in front of me, smashed my truck pretty good, bent the axle, torqued the frame, shifted the cab on the frame.
this might be the last of my baby..
unless i cut the front half of the frame off and make a half tube chassis. any suggestions?
